This paper presents an optimization technique applying the design of the cyclone separators. The results of this optimization technique were the main geometric ratio of the modiï¬ed cyclone (DOPOL), which presented in non-dimensional form, that satisï¬ed the following criteria: minimum pressure drop or maximum separation efficiency. The design procedure of the cyclone was written as the computer software, where the iterative computation design can be proceed faster. This software used the correlations of the cyclone performance obtained by the previous experimental on a modiï¬ed cyclone.…

The FLUENT V4.25 program is the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation. It can be used for fluid flow and heat transfer analyses and others. Regarding the program, the test is needed to know the validity, to verify that the program will give good output. Based on the test using experimental data on four heated parallel rod bundles, the output FLUENT V4.25, it gave a good result, where the differences between calculation and experimental data are not significant. It is expected that the FLUENT V4.25 program may achieve success in thermohydraulic analysis on other similar systems.

This paper describes theoretical and experimental study of the static bearing stiffness. This research is motivated by the role of bearing stiffness in determining the natural frequency of a rotor-shaft system. Previous investigators, White and Harris, have developed an analytical tool to calculate the bearing stiffness. However, this analytical results were not supported by experimental data. In this work, an experimental study was done in order to determine the static bearing stiffness. These experimental results are then compared to those obtained by White and Harris analysis. The analysis…
Welded joints loaded cyclically are prone to fatigue because they provide srress concentrations due to geometry changes, weld proï¬le shapes and microscopic defects in the welds". Allowable stresses for welded joints under cycliuzlly loading must be based on empirical values.
